The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 personnel in its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, the decision was taken at the commission’s meeting on February 26, 2026.

As part of the exercise, 82 Chief Officers on Grade Levels 14–15 were elevated to Assistant Director positions. Additionally, 91 Assistant Directors on Grade Levels 15–16 were promoted to Deputy Directors.

At the directorate level (Grade Levels 16–17), 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to Directors. Of this number, 18 officers will continue in active service, while 27 are scheduled for retirement shortly after promotion in line with public service regulations.

The promotion exercise also affected 2,121 intermediate officers across Grade Levels 07–13 in various departments of the commission.

The statement noted that the exercise was conducted in accordance with established guidelines and public service rules, reflecting the commission’s commitment to career progression, institutional stability and merit-based advancement.

INEC described the exercise as part of efforts to reward dedication and strengthen leadership depth across its structures as it prepares for forthcoming electoral engagements.

The commission congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity and impartial service in the discharge of their responsibilities.
