Chief Yemi Sanusi has been returned as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State following a peaceful state congress held over the weekend.
Sanusi, who ran unopposed, emerged through a consensus arrangement and was affirmed by a voice vote from delegates at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
The congress was conducted under the supervision of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s national committee. The event drew party leaders, delegates and stakeholders from across the state.
In his acceptance speech, Sanusi dedicated his re-election to the party’s leadership, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the broader membership for their continued confidence in his stewardship.
“I am deeply humbled by this renewed mandate to continue steering the ship of our great party in Ogun State,” he said.
He pledged to run an inclusive administration that accommodates all stakeholders and sustains party unity ahead of future elections. His first tenure was largely defined by efforts to stabilise the party structure following internal disagreements.
Party chieftains described his leadership as a unifying force within the state chapter, commending his role in reconciling factions and strengthening cohesion.
The Returning Officer, Honourable Wale Ohu, declared the exercise free, fair and consistent with the party’s constitution, urging the new executive to prioritise unity and strategic preparation.
Sanusi’s re-election is widely viewed within party ranks as a vote for continuity and stability, reinforcing the APC’s organisational base in Ogun State as it positions itself for upcoming electoral contests.
With a fresh four-year mandate, attention now shifts to how the chairman will consolidate gains, deepen grassroots mobilisation and sustain internal harmony within the party’s ranks.
