Obasanjo Dismisses Alleged Memoir Letter as Fabrication

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed as fake and mischievous a circulating letter purportedly extracted from his most recent memoirs.

In a statement issued yesterday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former Nigerian leader urged the public to disregard the document in its entirety, describing it as a deliberate fabrication intended to mislead Nigerians.

Obasanjo made it clear that the alleged excerpt did not originate from him and should not be treated as authentic.

The former President also used the occasion to express appreciation to friends, supporters and well-wishers for the goodwill messages ahead of his 89th birthday on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

As part of activities marking the milestone, Obasanjo had earlier announced plans to support no fewer than 10,000 beneficiaries in Lagos suburbs through humanitarian outreach initiatives.

Chief Executive Officer of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, Dr. Olalekan Makinde, disclosed that the Foundation’s intervention will focus on residents in Ikorodu and Alimosho local council areas.

The development underscores Obasanjo’s continued public engagement through philanthropy, even as he distances himself from what he described as a calculated attempt to circulate false information in his name.
