United Nigeria Airlines Issues Safety Advisory on Power Banks in Line With Aviation Regulations

Passengers flying with United Nigeria Airlines have been reminded to carry power banks only in hand luggage and to refrain from charging or using them onboard, following an updated safety advisory aligned with directives from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The airline’s guidance reinforces global standards on lithium battery safety established by the International Civil Aviation Organization, which classify portable power devices as potential fire hazards if damaged or improperly handled. Under the rules, each passenger may carry a maximum of two power banks not exceeding 100 watt-hours, and the devices must remain accessible in hand baggage rather than checked luggage or overhead compartments.

Charging power banks or using them to charge phones during flights is prohibited to mitigate risks of overheating or fire incidents in the cabin. The advisory reflects broader industry efforts to strengthen onboard safety protocols in response to past incidents involving lithium-ion devices.

The message to travellers is clear: compliance with safety guidelines is essential for secure and smooth air travel, ensuring that operational precautions protect both passengers and aircraft.
