Dapo Abiodun Congratulates Kayode Egbetokun, Backs Tunji Disu as Acting IGP

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has paid tribute to the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, following the acceptance of his resignation by President Bola Tinubu, while throwing his weight behind newly appointed Acting IGP Tunji Disu.

In a personally signed statement, Abiodun described Egbetokun as a proud son of Ogun State whose tenure was marked by professionalism and steadfast commitment to internal security. He commended the former police chief for decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force and wished him well as he steps aside to focus on family responsibilities.

Turning to Disu’s appointment, the governor framed it as a pivotal moment for security leadership, urging the Acting IGP to prioritise intelligence-led policing, improved welfare for personnel, stronger community engagement and deeper inter-agency collaboration. He emphasised that rebuilding public trust, enforcing discipline and
leveraging technology for crime detection must anchor the new administration’s strategy.

Abiodun reaffirmed Ogun State’s support for federal security reforms, underscoring a clear message: institutional stability and proactive leadership remain central to tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
