Free Medical Outreach Marks 89th Birthday of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Targets 10,000 Residents in Lagos

The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation will commemorate the former president’s 89th birthday with a large-scale medical outreach aimed at providing free healthcare to at least 10,000 residents of Lagos State. The initiative, dubbed the Lagos Medical Mission, will run from February 27 to March 4, 2026, offering essential health services at multiple community locations.

According to foundation CEO Olalekan Makinde, the outreach will begin on February 27 at Ijede LCDA Council Hall in Ikorodu, followed by services on February 28 at Imota Mini Stadium. From March 2 to March 4, medical activities will shift to Alade Stadium in the Alimosho area.

The outreach will provide free ear care, hearing aids, eye screenings, prescription glasses, cardiovascular assessments, and preventive health counseling. Participants will also receive general medical consultations, diagnostics, treatment, and essential medications at no cost. Organisers emphasised that services will be delivered on a first-come, first-served basis, urging residents to arrive early.

The initiative is part of the broader mission of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, which focuses on health, education, and community development. Past programs have restored hearing and provided critical medical support to thousands of Nigerians. Officials described the outreach as a humanitarian gift aimed at addressing healthcare gaps in underserved communities.

A statement from Kehinde Akinyemi, the former president’s media assistant, framed the event as a legacy-driven gesture reflecting a commitment to national service and human development. Community leaders and stakeholders have encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity, noting the high demand for quality healthcare in many neighbourhoods.

With medical professionals and volunteers on site, the programme seeks to deliver efficient and comprehensive services while fostering awareness of preventable health conditions. The outreach underscores the continuing role of philanthropic initiatives in supplementing public healthcare and improving access for vulnerable populations.

As the former president celebrates his milestone birthday, the medical mission stands as both a humanitarian contribution and a reminder of the importance of community-focused health interventions. Residents in need of services are encouraged to participate and share information so that more families can benefit from the programme’s life-changing support.
