The head of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Abdulateef Owoyemi, has appealed to the government of Ogun State to lift the suspension on the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebu . According to Owoyemi, the indefinite embargo has frustrated members of the royal family and indigenes at home and in the diaspora, who are eager for the process to be concluded.
He acknowledged the efforts of Dapo Abiodun in supporting the process so far but urged the government not to allow procedural delays to prolong the selection. He noted that calls and inquiries from concerned family members and community stakeholders had intensified, with many seeking updates on the emergence of a new traditional ruler.
Owoyemi emphasised that preparations for cultural events such as Ojude Oba during Eid-el-Kabir require leadership and coordination, stressing that the community remains eager to move forward. He argued that sufficient time had been provided for government review of concerns and called for the suspension to be lifted so kingmakers could complete their mandate.
The appeal reflects growing impatience within the royal family and the wider community, who believe the process should reach a conclusion. While recognising the government’s efforts, the ruling house reiterated that the selection must proceed without further delay to restore traditional leadership and cultural continuity in Ijebu land.
Stakeholders continue to urge dialogue and swift resolution, arguing that concluding the process would address uncertainties and allow the community to focus on governance and cultural celebrations.
