Three Dead, One Injured in Ogun Auto Crash as FRSC Warns Against Speeding

A lone road accident along the Railway Crossing on the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway has claimed three lives and left one person injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The crash involved a white Volvo commercial truck with registration number AYE 977 XA and occurred in the early hours of Sunday. FRSC officials confirmed that seven persons — five males and two females — were in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Authorities reported that three occupants died on the spot, one sustained injuries of varying severity, while three others escaped unhurt. The accident was attributed to over speeding, with investigators stating that the driver lost control and veered into a ditch.

Rescue operations were carried out jointly by operatives of the FRSC, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and the Nigeria Police Force. Emergency responders successfully cleared the scene to restore traffic flow along the busy highway.

The injured victim was subsequently transported by family members to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi for specialised medical treatment. The remains of the deceased were handed over to their families for burial arrangements.

Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during night-time driving and at critical junctions and railway crossings. He emphasised adherence to speed limits and responsible driving practices as essential measures to reduce road fatalities.

“The loss of lives on our roads is preventable,” the FRSC official warned. “Drivers must prioritise safety, obey traffic regulations, and avoid reckless behaviour.”

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about speeding and road safety compliance on Nigeria’s highways, with authorities reiterating calls for greater caution to prevent further tragedies.
