Ogun PDP Rejects Claims of Adebutu’s Control, Affirms Internal Democracy Ahead of 2027

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed speculation that the party is under the control of its financier, Oladipupo Adebutu.

The clarification was made during a State Executive Committee meeting held at the party secretariat and presided over by the state chairman, Abayomi Tella.

Addressing party leaders and members, Tella described the narrative of individual control as false and misleading, insisting that the Ogun PDP operates on collective leadership and the will of its members.

According to him, every member contributes to the party’s growth and development, and no single individual dictates its direction.

“As preparations intensify toward the 2027 general elections, I wish to clearly reassure party members across the state and the good people of Ogun State that the Ogun State chapter of the PDP is fully mobilised, united, and ready to contest and win the coming elections,” Tella said.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, fairness, and transparency, assuring aspirants that all primary elections would be open and credible, strictly guided by the party’s constitution.

“No position is reserved for anyone. All members are equal in the party, and aspirants are encouraged to consult widely with stakeholders within their constituencies,” he stated.

Tella also cautioned party leaders against prioritising monetary considerations over competence and character in the selection of candidates, warning that indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“Any member found acting contrary to the party’s constitution or undermining its unity will face appropriate disciplinary action,” he added.

The statement comes as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Ogun PDP positioning itself as unified and prepared to challenge for power in the state.
