Kwara United F.C. Hit with ₦12m Fine, Three-Point Deduction Over Crowd Violence

Kwara United F.C. have been fined ₦12 million and docked three points and three goals following crowd trouble during their Nigeria Premier Football League clash against Rivers United F.C..

The sanctions were imposed by the Nigeria Premier Football League after the rearranged Matchday 22 fixture played on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin.

According to the league body, Kwara United breached the NPFL Framework and Rules by failing to provide adequate and effective security, which allowed unauthorised individuals access to restricted areas.

The club was also found guilty of failing to control its supporters, leading to the harassment and assault of match officials and officials of Rivers United. The NPFL stated that the incidents resulted in bodily harm and brought the game into disrepute.

The ₦12 million fine was broken down as follows:

  • ₦2m for failure to provide adequate security

  • ₦1m for failure to ensure proper conduct of supporters

  • ₦2m for assault on match officials and Rivers United officials

  • ₦1m for unsporting behaviour

  • ₦1m for unlawfully detaining match officials and Rivers United officials after the match

  • ₦2m as compensatory costs for treatment and damages

Beyond the financial penalties, the league deducted three points and three goals from Kwara United’s accumulated tally for the season — a significant sporting setback.

The club has also been ordered to play its remaining home fixtures at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

Additionally, Kwara United must identify supporters involved in the assaults for arrest and prosecution, with documented proof of compliance required by the league.

The club has 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions.

The ruling underscores the NPFL’s firm stance on crowd control and matchday security, reinforcing its commitment to protecting officials and maintaining the integrity of the competition.
