The Ogun State Government has organised a capacity-building workshop for principals, vice principals and teachers in public secondary schools as part of efforts to improve academic standards across the state.
The two-day training, organised by the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), was held at the Cinema Hall of the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who declared the workshop open through the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, described education as the most enduring investment any government can make. He stressed that meaningful transformation in the sector requires competent leadership and motivated teachers.
“Our Principals and Vice Principals constitute the administrative engine of our schools, while teachers shape intellect, character and civic consciousness. When sound leadership aligns with effective classroom delivery, excellence becomes inevitable,” he stated.
Chairman of TESCOM, Apostle ‘Biodun Sanyaolu, said global best practices must be entrenched in school administration and teaching methods to achieve measurable results. He noted that the administration’s ISEYA mantra places education at the centre of sustainable development in the state, adding that the workshop reflects a practical commitment rather than rhetoric.
According to him, the theme of the workshop, “One Vision, One Team: Driving Excellence Through Unified Leadership and Management,” underscores deliberate efforts to align leadership structures, strengthen management capacity and improve performance indicators across public secondary schools.
In his remarks, President of the All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Alaba Olùgbéwesa, commended the state government and TESCOM for organising the training and urged participants to collaborate with education stakeholders to sustain progress in the sector.
Responding on behalf of participants, Mrs. Abimbola Koya, Principal of Ilewo Community High School in Abeokuta North Local Government, and Mr. Sunday Babatunde, Vice Principal of Orílẹ̀ Imo High School in Obafemi Owode Local Government, described the workshop as vital for professional growth and improved service delivery.
