A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, has declared his interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
Lemo made the declaration on Wednesday while participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress at Ward 12, Ita-Agemo, Isale-Igbein in Abeokuta.
The seasoned banker said his ambition is rooted in a commitment to accelerate grassroots development, noting that Ogun State possesses vast agricultural potential that requires purposeful leadership to unlock sustainable economic growth.
Addressing party members who received him warmly, Lemo pledged loyalty to the APC and assured them of inclusive governance if given the mandate. He attributed the peaceful conduct of the ward congresses in the state to the unifying impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu.
He explained that the ward congresses were aimed at consolidating unity within the party ahead of subsequent national processes.
Lemo also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for sustaining the state’s developmental momentum, particularly highlighting the agro-cargo airport project, which has secured approval to commence commercial flights.
While refraining from overt campaign rhetoric, he acknowledged his 2027 ambition, emphasizing that leadership is about raising governance standards and delivering the best outcomes for the people. He added that his aspiration ultimately rests on divine guidance and the will of the people.
