Lawmakers on Tuesday commended the Minister of Interior during the ministry’s budget defence before the joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives on Interior.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, said the minister has demonstrated strong leadership and administrative capacity since assuming office.
Oshiomhole noted that reforms across agencies under the ministry are already enhancing Nigeria’s image both domestically and internationally.
“Each time I pass through our airports now, I feel honoured and elated that our immigration service is wearing a new face. The reforms currently being undertaken by the Minister are yielding appreciable results,” he said.
The former Edo State governor highlighted improvements in key agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
He disclosed that the Senate had passed a resolution directing the ministry to visit Kano following recent fire incidents that destroyed shops and private property, adding that the response efforts of the Fire Service were being acknowledged.
Oshiomhole further observed that the Correctional Service now has new leadership aligned with the minister’s reform agenda.
However, he urged the Civil Defence, Correctional, Immigration and Fire Service Board to expedite the conclusion of its ongoing recruitment exercise and promptly publish the list of successful candidates. He described the release of the recruitment results as a matter of urgent national importance, emphasizing the need for transparency and timely communication.
