Ogun NULGE Issues Seven-Day Ultimatum to State Government, Threatens Industrial Action

The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has issued a fresh seven-day ultimatum to the state government, warning of potential industrial action if their demands are not addressed.

In a communiqué released after its State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Union Secretariat in Agbeloba, Abeokuta, NULGE expressed frustration over the government’s continued silence on critical issues affecting workers in the local government service. The union cited previous correspondences sent on January 21 and January 28, 2026, which highlighted challenges “militating against the Local Government Service in Ogun State.”

The ultimatum, effective from February 18 to February 26, 2026, signals the possibility of a widespread shutdown of local government operations should the government fail to respond meaningfully. “The union will not hesitate to imbibe any industrial action if our demands are not met after the deadline of this new ultimatum,” the communiqué stated.

Despite the warning, NULGE maintained a conciliatory tone, describing Governor Dapo Abiodun as a “listening and labour-friendly Governor” and expressing hope that he would intervene promptly to avert a dispute.

The union leadership, led by State President Comrade Adefesobi Adebayo and Organising Secretary Comrade Ganiyu Jelili, affirmed readiness to engage in dialogue to resolve the issues amicably. Copies of the communiqué were forwarded to key government officials and security agencies, including the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and law enforcement authorities.

With the deadline approaching, attention now turns to the Ogun State Government, whose response will determine whether local government services continue uninterrupted or face disruption in the coming days.
