Abiodun Orders Probe as Truck Crash Kills Seven at Ota Toll Gate

Governor Dapo Abiodun has condemned what he described as reckless driving by truck operators along the Sango–Ota corridor, following a fatal accident at the Ota Toll Gate that claimed seven lives.

The tragic crash, involving a trailer tanker reportedly affected by brake failure, left six men and one woman dead, while two other victims sustained critical injuries and are receiving treatment. Nine persons were involved in the incident.

Reacting to the development, the governor described the loss of lives as painful and unacceptable, stressing that preventable negligence on the highways would no longer be tolerated. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and directed an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

Abiodun also called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations along the busy corridor, urging the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps to intensify monitoring and compliance efforts.

In a related move, the Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Lawal Adewale Wasiu, visited the accident scene shortly after the incident alongside key officials. He received briefings from security operatives coordinating rescue and control operations.

The chairman expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and warned against roadside trading and other unsafe practices that expose residents and commuters to danger. He assured that the council would collaborate with relevant agencies to strengthen safety compliance within the axis.

The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its resolve to intensify road safety enforcement measures across the state, signalling a tougher stance on traffic violations in a bid to prevent further loss of lives.
