The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved 14 political parties to participate in the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, excluding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party.
Among the cleared parties are the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
INEC’s Public Affairs Officer in Osun, Musa Olurode, disclosed this on Sunday on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), stating that the 14 parties met all constitutional and regulatory requirements within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the statement, following the conclusion of party primaries, the names and particulars of candidates were duly uploaded to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
“In accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 4 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Osun State Governorship Election, the Commission has published the personal particulars of candidates (Form EC9),” the statement read.
INEC further announced that copies of each candidate’s Form EC9, including academic credentials and other supporting documents, will be displayed at the INEC State Office, all 30 Local Government Area offices, and the Area Office across Osun State beginning Monday, February 16, 2026. The Commission advised political parties, candidates, and members of the public to inspect the documents as provided by law.
The electoral body clarified that only the 14 parties that complied within the prescribed period are eligible to contest the election.
Under the leadership of the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and the conduct of credible elections.
The Commission also called on political stakeholders and the public to continue supporting its constitutional mandate as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 governorship contest.
