Ogun Assembly’s PAAC Committee Begins Review of 2024 Audit Reports on State MDAs

Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption (PAAC), chaired by Hon. Damilare Bello, have commenced the consideration of the 2024 Audit Report on State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), beginning with the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Bello described the exercise as a critical legislative oversight aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources for the benefit of the people of Ogun State. He highlighted that the review is constitutionally mandated, citing Section 125(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the House of Assembly to scrutinize the financial operations of all MDAs.

Hon. Bello commended Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to accountability under the ISEYA Agenda and appreciated the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elemide Oludaisi Olusegun, as well as the State Auditor-General, for improvements recorded in the 2024 Audit Report—evidence that previous legislative recommendations are yielding positive results.

During the session with the Ministry of Information and Strategy, led by Permanent Secretary Alhaji Waheed Adesina, the Committee urged the Ministry to intensify revenue-generation efforts, strictly comply with Auditor-General recommendations, and provide supporting documentation for expenses incurred on public enlightenment programmes. In response, Mr. Adesina assured the Committee that all requested documents would be provided promptly and expressed appreciation for the oversight in promoting transparency.

Similarly, the State Health Insurance Agency, led by Executive Secretary Dr. Afolabi Dosummu, was commended for increasing health insurance enrollment and enhancing public awareness. The Committee advised the Agency to expand coverage, provide evidence for unretired expenses highlighted in the audit report, and submit full documentation regarding an overseas training on Advanced Strategy for Health Financing and Insurance to both the Auditor-General’s Office and the PAAC Committee.

The Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, represented by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Funmi Baker, also appeared before the Committee. The Ministry was directed to submit its full Fixed Asset Register and strictly adhere to procurement laws as recommended by the Auditor-General’s Office.

The PAAC Committee’s review underscores the Ogun State House of Assembly’s ongoing commitment to institutional accountability, ensuring that public resources are effectively managed across all state MDAs.
