Residents and community leaders in Simawa have commended the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Senator representing Ogun West, Olamilekan Solomon (Yayi), for resuming construction on the long-abandoned Simawa High Court Road.
The commendation was led by APC chieftain, Otunba Nurudeen Alowonle, who spoke with journalists on behalf of the community. He recalled that the road project was initially initiated during the tenure of former Governor and Senator, Gbenga Daniel, but was abandoned shortly after commencement.
“We are deeply grateful to our responsive Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and our proactive Senator, Olamilekan Solomon Yayi, for listening to our concerns,” Otunba Alowonle said. “This road is critical to Simawa, as it provides access to the High Court and major markets. Sadly, the earlier project stalled after barely 10 metres. The renewed commitment we are witnessing today speaks volumes about the priorities of this administration.”
Market leaders in the area also expressed appreciation, highlighting the economic and social benefits of the project.
A prominent trader in the Eweoloja–Simawa market axis, Mrs. Bukola Adebayo, described the intervention as a major relief for traders and residents.
“This road is the lifeline of our businesses,” she said. “Its poor condition affected the movement of goods and customers for years. The resumption of work feels like an answered prayer. We sincerely thank Governor Abiodun and Senator Yayi for prioritising the welfare of ordinary people.”
Another market leader, Mrs. Yetunde Ajiboso, emphasized the broader impact of the road beyond commerce.
“This road affects access to the court, schools, and homes. Its abandonment created serious safety concerns and daily hardship,” she noted. “While we were shocked when work stopped in the past, we are now relieved and thankful. This partnership between the state government and our senator reflects genuine leadership and representation.”
Community leaders confirmed that construction work has resumed in earnest, raising hopes of improved connectivity, enhanced economic activity, and better living conditions for residents of Simawa and its environs.
