The Ogun State Government has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The declaration was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who said the holiday was approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun to enable residents to fully participate in activities lined up for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
According to the statement, the anniversary marks five decades of Ogun State’s political existence, steady growth and significant contributions to national development.
Talabi urged residents to mark the historic milestone in an atmosphere of unity and peace, noting that the celebration provides an opportunity to reflect on the state’s journey and achievements since its creation.
The statement also reaffirmed the commitment of the Abiodun administration to consolidating past gains while accelerating the state’s development agenda for the benefit of all citizens.
Governor Abiodun further encouraged residents to take advantage of the public holiday to actively engage in events organised to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Gateway State.
