Nigerian music star Davido has reacted following his loss in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards held on Sunday, February 1.
Davido’s track With You, featuring Omah Lay, was among the nominees in the highly competitive category but missed out on the award. Shortly after the ceremony, the singer took to his Instagram page to share photos from the event, accompanied by the caption, “Oluwa Dey My Side,” signalling gratitude and resilience despite the setback.
The award was won by South African singer Tyla for her song Push 2 Start, marking her second victory in the category. Tyla first made history in 2024 with her breakout hit Water, becoming the inaugural winner of the award.
The category featured strong Nigerian representation, underlining the country’s continued influence on the global music scene. Burna Boy was nominated for Love, Davido for With You featuring Omah Lay, while Ayra Starr and Wizkid earned a joint nomination for Gimme Dat. Also nominated were Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
Despite Nigeria accounting for three of the shortlisted entries, none of the country’s nominees secured the award this year.
The Best African Music Performance category was introduced to spotlight African sounds and talent on the global stage, and the 2026 nominations once again reflected Nigeria’s dominant presence within the continent’s music landscape.
Tyla, 24, continues to rise as one of Africa’s most successful global exports, earning acclaim for her unique blend of amapiano, pop and R&B, and further cementing her status with another Grammy triumph.
