Iperu Indigenes Forum Pays Tribute to Late Alaperu One Year After Passing

The Iperu Indigenes Forum has paid glowing tribute to the immediate past Alaperu of Iperu, His Royal Highness, Alayeluwa, Late Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo (Odoru V), as Friday, February 6, 2026, marks one year since his transition.

In a statement released on Sunday to commemorate the first anniversary of the revered monarch’s passing, the Forum described the late Alaperu as a visionary leader, compassionate father and unifying force whose reign left lasting imprints on Iperu Akesanland and beyond.

The statement, jointly signed by Prince Ladi Olabinjo, Convener; High Chief Ifasola Saheed Ojelade Opeodu, the Oluwo of Iperu and Administrator; Otunba Adebayo Salami, Administrator; and Temitope Oyekan, Media Officer, said Oba Idowu-Basibo lived a life defined by discipline, wisdom and uncommon dedication to the unity and development of his people.

According to the Forum, the monarch’s reign was marked by dignity, foresight and a rare balance between the preservation of tradition and the pursuit of modern development. It highlighted numerous landmark projects executed during his reign, including the Community Palace, Kesington Adebutu Civic Centre, Magistrate Court, Agro Cargo Airport, Aviation Housing Estate, Dam and Irrigation Project, market redevelopment initiatives, Skills Acquisition Centre, Mother and Child Hospital, upgraded Primary Health Centres, Engineering Academy, Nigerian Customs Training School, Mini Stadium Project and strategic road developments across Iperu.

The Forum also recalled significant milestones achieved by Iperu indigenes under his leadership, notably the election of Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, as the first indigene of Iperu to become Governor of Ogun State, and the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the first female Accountant General of the Federation. The recognition and creation of additional royal stools within Iperu’s traditional system were also cited as part of his enduring legacy.

Describing the late Alaperu as a peacemaker and stabilising influence, the Forum noted that the Ojude Oba festival, which had been dormant for nearly three decades, was successfully revived during his reign. It added that the long-standing crisis within the Iperu Muslim community was amicably resolved through his fatherly intervention and wise counsel.

Beyond infrastructure and institutions, the Forum said the monarch’s greatest legacy lies in the unity he fostered, the pride he restored in Iperu’s royal heritage and the culture of peace and dialogue he consistently promoted.

As part of activities marking the one-year remembrance, the family of the late monarch has planned a memorial thanksgiving service and reception to celebrate his life and enduring impact.

The Forum concluded that while the late Alaperu is deeply missed, his memory remains a blessing and his legacy continues to inspire unity, service and excellence among present and future generations of Iperu people.
