The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced the immediate departure of Steve Tikolo as Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team and High-Performance Manager, ending nearly 40 months of service by the former Kenyan international.
The federation confirmed the decision on Monday, describing the separation as mutual. NCF Public Relations Officer Musa Bodie stated that both parties agreed to the disengagement after close to three years at the helm.
During his tenure, Tikolo guided the national team through steady progress, emphasizing talent development, discipline, teamwork, and professionalism. Under his leadership, Nigeria climbed five places in the ICC T20 rankings, moving from 42nd to 37th, and strengthened their position as a leading cricket force in West Africa. The team also posted improved results against higher-ranked East African opponents.
NCF President Dr. Uyi Akpata praised Tikolo’s contributions, highlighting not only on-field achievements but also the cultural impact of his tenure. “The Board and Management of NCF extend our sincere appreciation to Steve for his unwavering commitment and dedication over the past three years. His on-field results have been outstanding, but the culture of discipline, hard work, passion, and dedication he instilled will have a lasting impact,” Akpata said.
Tikolo, in response, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to coach Nigerian cricket. “I leave with positive memories and great optimism that the team will continue to improve,” he stated.
The NCF said details regarding the transition process and the appointment of a new Head Coach and High-Performance Manager would be communicated in due course, while wishing Tikolo success in his future endeavors.
