Ogun NUJ Inaugurates 11 Committees to Drive Union Activities in 2026


The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated 11 standing committees made up of 90 members drawn from various chapels, in a move aimed at strengthening internal administration and advancing the union’s programmes for the 2026 year.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday at the Olusegun Osoba Hall, Iwe Iroyin, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, attracted journalists from across different media organisations in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, described the inauguration as a strategic step designed to promote professionalism, enhance capacity building, improve welfare, and foster effective engagement among journalists in Ogun State.

According to him, the committees will play critical roles in ensuring the growth, sustainability, and relevance of the union, as each has been assigned responsibilities aligned with the NUJ’s objectives for the coming year.

Among the committees inaugurated are the Capacity Development and Programme Exchange Committee, chaired by Comrade Adeyinka Richards with Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju as Co-Chairman, and the Ventures and Assets Management Committee, headed by Comrade Abiodun Lawal.

Others include the Membership Revalidation Committee; the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Comrade Tunde Sodeke; and the Media Parliament/Guest Forum Committee, led by Comrade Wole Otayemi.

A major component of the union’s annual calendar, the 2026 Press Week Committee, will be chaired by Comrade Emmanuel Oke, while the Ramadan Lecture/Iftar Committee is headed by Comrade Azeez Olorunlomeru. The Social and Welfare Committee, chaired by Comrade Abiodun Taiwo, is expected to focus on the wellbeing of members.

Also inaugurated were the Project Development Committee, chaired by Comrade Femi Adeleye with Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju as Co-Chairman, and the Media and Publicity Committee, chaired by Comrade Gift Oba, with Comrade Mathew Sowunmi serving as Secretary.

Comrade Olanrewaju urged committee members to regard their appointments as a call to service and to work collaboratively in advancing the ideals of the NUJ in the state.

He further charged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, transparency, and professionalism in order to strengthen the union and enhance the practice of journalism in Ogun State.
