Ijebu Ode Grammar School, one of Ogun State’s oldest and most prestigious secondary institutions, is set to commemorate its 113th Founders’ Day, celebrating more than a century of academic excellence, discipline, and enduring contributions to national development.
Established in 1913, with its Old Students Association, the Ijebu Ode Grammar School Old Students Association (JOGSOBA), founded in 1922, the school has built a formidable legacy as a centre of quality education. Over the decades, it has produced generations of distinguished leaders, professionals, and patriots who have made significant impacts across various sectors in Nigeria and beyond.
The 113th Founders’ Day celebration offers an opportunity for the school community, alumni, staff, and stakeholders to reflect on the institution’s rich heritage and reaffirm its core values. The celebration, which kicked off with a press conference, will feature a lineup of activities including thanksgiving services, a dinner night, cultural performances, and reunion events designed to reconnect old students with their alma mater.
Speaking at the press conference, the National President of JOGSOBA, Otunba Ayokunle Bolujoko, said the anniversary is dedicated to honouring the foresight and wisdom of the school’s founding fathers. He noted that the occasion also serves as a platform for old students to strengthen bonds and renew their commitment to the growth and development of the school.
Otunba Bolujoko praised alumni for their sustained support through the execution of various infrastructural projects, while also commending the Ogun State Government for its role in improving educational standards and infrastructure. He highlighted projects executed by old students, including the upgraded school entrance and façade, the sports arena, and the installation of an extensive solar lighting system to enhance security within the school premises.
He further disclosed that JOGSOBA recently constructed and commissioned an archive centre dedicated to preserving the school’s historical records, ensuring that its legacy is safeguarded for future generations.
Also speaking, a member of the Board of Trustees of JOGSOBA, Engr. Ebenezer Osoba, described the celebration as a symbol of pride, unity, and the enduring spirit of Ijebu Ode Grammar School.
As the institution marks this significant milestone, stakeholders say the focus remains on sustaining its tradition of academic excellence while embracing innovation to meet the demands of modern education. The 113th Founders’ Day celebration stands not only as a reflection on the school’s storied past but also as a renewed commitment to shaping future generations through sound education and strong moral values.
