Ogun State Rewards Excellence in Education with Cash Awards for Students and Teachers

In a landmark move to foster educational excellence, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has honoured outstanding students, teachers, and schools across Ogun State, recognizing their remarkable achievements in state-based and national competitions.

The awards, presented in Abeokuta, spanned public and private institutions across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including cash prizes for exceptional performers. Combined Overall Best Graduating Students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, and Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Science, Ilese, were each awarded between 2 and 2.5 million Naira, fulfilling the Governor’s promise during the 2025 Combined Convocations.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, emphasized that the recognition reflects the tangible results of the state’s sustained investment in education. “For about five years and counting, Ogun State contingents have consistently topped competitions at both state and national levels. This demonstrates the effectiveness of our education sector policies,” he said.

Highlighting the achievements, Director of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Edun, revealed that Ogun State learners excelled at prestigious competitions, including the National Institute of Physics Conference, the National Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (NSTAN) events, and the Joint Engineering and Technician Scientists (JETS) Competition. The contingents secured seven first-place finishes, two seconds, three thirds, and a fourth-place position.

Dr. Yomi Onanuga, State Chairman of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), praised the Ministry for its unwavering support and commended Prof. Arigbabu for his leadership and expertise in the sector, describing him as “a round peg in a round hole.”

Expressing gratitude, 2025 Overall Best Graduating Student from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Joseph Owolabi, and 2025 Best Teacher in Nigeria (Primary Category), Mr. Francis Solanke, pledged to continue representing their schools and Ogun State with distinction.

The awards form part of the Dapo Abiodun Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards, an initiative aimed at encouraging academic and professional excellence and positioning Ogun State as a model for other states and the Federal Ministry of Education.
