Motorists plying the Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway have been advised to exercise patience and drive with caution as ongoing reconstruction work continues to cause traffic congestion and delays along the busy highway.
The Vice Chairman of Sagamu Local Government Area, Hon. Isiaka Salami, gave the advice while speaking with journalists in his office, stressing that the temporary inconvenience was a necessary sacrifice for long-term benefits. According to him, the extensive rehabilitation of the road reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens and enhancing road safety.
Hon. Salami appealed to road users to remain calm, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic officials on duty, noting that such compliance would significantly reduce the severity of the gridlock.
“We are all aware of the ongoing reconstruction of the express road. I appeal to all motorists to be calm, composed and law-abiding. While the situation can be frustrating, patience and obedience to traffic rules will help minimise the traffic jam,” he said.
Describing the Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway as a critical economic corridor, Salami noted that the road serves as a major gateway linking the South-West to the South-South and South-East, making its rehabilitation a national priority. He added that the importance of the route informed the government’s resolve to ensure a comprehensive overhaul rather than piecemeal repairs.
The council boss also expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his intervention and support in ensuring that the Federal Government awarded the road for reconstruction, reaffirming that the present administration remains committed to upgrading road infrastructure across Ogun State.
Also speaking, the TRACE Divisional Commander, Sagamu Division, Commander Adegoke Omotayo, assured motorists of the agency’s continued presence and dedication along the corridor. He said TRACE officers have been actively managing traffic since the commencement of construction and will remain on duty to ease the movement of vehicles and reduce hardship for road users.
Omotayo urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and avoid reckless driving, assuring that sustained enforcement and coordination would help lessen the challenges experienced during the reconstruction period.
The reconstruction, officials insist, is a temporary disruption aimed at delivering a safer, more efficient expressway that will boost mobility, trade, and economic activities once completed.
