In a strategic move to address teacher shortages in public primary schools, particularly in rural communities, the Ogun State Government has formally engaged 448 OgunTeach interns, who have now received their engagement and posting letters.
The letters were presented at the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marking the beginning of a targeted drive to improve education delivery in underserved areas.
Speaking at the event, SUBEB Chairman Evangelist Olalekan Ifede emphasized that the postings were aimed specifically at rural schools. He urged the interns to accept their postings without requesting transfers, warning that any attempt to change their assignments would result in immediate removal from the programme.
“If you go to anybody to ask for a change of posting, your name will be removed immediately. There are many people seeking this opportunity, so appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for making it possible,” Ifede said.
The SUBEB chairman directed the interns to resume duty immediately upon receiving their letters, stressing that failure to assume their posts could lead to replacement. He further explained that early submission of assumption-of-duty documents is essential for timely salary processing, noting that payment would only be guaranteed for those who comply promptly.
Ifede also advised the interns to cooperate with their Headteachers and colleagues, framing the engagement as a call to service rather than personal gain. He emphasized that dedication and commitment would influence their future eligibility for permanent appointment.
“Basic education is critical. We want teachers who are determined to do the job effectively. Ensure that your learners can read, write, and communicate properly,” he added.
Earlier, Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr Femi Fatade, stated that the selection of the interns was strictly merit-based, with postings aligned to the specific needs of rural schools across Ogun State.
Representing the interns, Mr Adedayo Taiwo expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun, pledging that the beneficiaries would perform their duties diligently and meet the expectations set by the administration.
The engagement of these 448 interns is part of the state’s broader initiative to strengthen public education in rural communities, enhance learning outcomes, and ensure that every child has access to quality basic education.
