The Ogun State House of Assembly has approved the Year 2026 Appropriation Bill amounting to N1,668,997,993,125.44, barely 26 days after it was presented by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. The passage marks a key milestone in the state’s fiscal planning for the coming year.
The bill was adopted following the presentation of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation report by its Chairman, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi. The motion for adoption, seconded by Hon. Folawewo Salami, received unanimous support from all lawmakers in a voice vote during plenary presided over by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The bill underwent a clause-by-clause reading before the Committee of the Whole House and was later moved for third reading by Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye. The final approval was confirmed by a unanimous voice vote, after which the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, formally recorded the third reading. The Speaker subsequently directed that a clean copy of the bill be transmitted to Governor Abiodun for assent.
Hon. Lamidi highlighted that the Assembly adjusted budget proposals for three Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This included a slight upward review of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by N2.193 billion, offset by a corresponding reduction in the capital receipt, leaving the total budget expenditure unchanged at N1.668 trillion.
This development follows the Assembly’s earlier approval of the 2025 Revised Appropriation Bill and the Revised Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2026–2028, reflecting the legislature’s commitment to a structured and balanced fiscal framework for Ogun State.
The passage of the 2026 budget sets the stage for the state government to implement planned projects and programs while maintaining fiscal discipline and oversight as the new financial year approaches.
