Authorities have confirmed that a serious road traffic accident involving a convoy linked to world-famous boxer Anthony Joshua occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Makun, close to the Danco Filling Station before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane.
The incident, which eyewitnesses say happened shortly after 11 a.m., involved a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN colliding with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still under investigation. A second vehicle, reportedly a Pajero SUV carrying security personnel, was said to be part of the convoy.
Eyewitnesses at the scene gave varying accounts of the crash and its aftermath. One witness told reporters that the Lexus had four occupants at the time of the impact and claimed that there were fatalities at the scene. The same witness described how bystanders initiated rescue efforts before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived minutes later.
“It was a two-vehicle convoy. Joshua was seated behind the driver,” the eyewitness said, adding that rescue efforts began immediately as oncoming traffic was flagged down to prevent further collisions.
However, details surrounding the identities and conditions of those involved remain unclear, with reports differing on the extent of injuries and fatalities. Earlier accounts suggested Joshua sustained minor injuries, while other claims circulating have not yet been independently verified.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the crash did occur and that investigations are ongoing. He noted that the police would issue further updates as more verified information becomes available.
Meanwhile, news of the accident has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with fans expressing concern and calling for official clarification amid the conflicting reports.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, stressing that only confirmed details from official sources should be relied upon. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
