EFCC Suspends Operatives Over Rapper, Oladips’ N10M Extortion Allegation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended a number of its operatives following allegations by Nigerian rapper, Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, that they extorted N10 million from him.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the anti-graft agency said it views the allegation with the utmost seriousness and has already launched a full investigation.

According to the EFCC, Oladips claimed that its operatives collected the money from him before securing his release after an arrest involving other suspected internet fraudsters.

The Commission confirmed that officers who handled the musician’s case have been summoned to its corporate headquarters in Abuja and relieved of their operational duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The grim picture painted by the artist does not reflect the true character of the EFCC,” the statement read. “We have seen his claims and have commenced investigations accordingly. The officers in the team that handled his case have been relieved of their operational duties while investigations continue.”

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to integrity and accountability, assuring the public that any operative found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action.

It also warned that if the rapper’s claims were discovered to be false or malicious, appropriate sanctions would be applied.

“The Commission is serious about its value of integrity and will take necessary action against any staff found to be culpable. However, if the allegation is found to be false and raised to tarnish the image of the Commission, appropriate sanctions will also be imposed,” the EFCC said.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain patient and allow due process to take its course, reaffirming its commitment to fighting economic and financial crimes without fear or favour.
