Gbenga Daniel Launches BATOGD Movement, Declares Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election ‘Sacrosanct’

Former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has thrown his full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, describing his re-election in 2027 as “sacrosanct” for Nigeria’s continued progress.

Daniel made the declaration on Sunday while unveiling the multimillion-naira Renewed Hope International Market in Igode, Sagamu Local Government Area. The event also marked the official launch of the BATOGD Movement, a platform created to mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Addressing a cheering crowd, the senator hailed Tinubu’s administration for what he called “the first ever conscious leadership” Nigeria has experienced, citing bold economic reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange liberalisation as evidence of decisive governance.

“Asíwájú has provided our country with the first ever conscious leadership through a systematic process of rethinking the nation, redirecting our economy, and reengineering our national engagements,” Daniel said. “Our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is sacrosanct, and our reasons are clear.”

While acknowledging the economic hardship facing Nigerians, Daniel insisted the reforms have created a solid foundation for long-term stability, urging state governors to “give a good account” of the excess revenue now accruing to them from increased federal allocations.

Highlighting his senatorial achievements, Daniel listed bills he has sponsored – including one for the creation of Ijebu-Remo State and another for the establishment of a South-West Commission – and stressed the importance of his continuity in office to see the proposals through.

On the new international market, Daniel appealed to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to rehabilitate the access road to Igode to unlock the market’s full potential.

Royal Father of Igode, Oba Jamiu Sule-Onosipe, praised Daniel for bringing the first federal presence to the community, calling on both state and federal governments to link adjoining roads to neighbouring Lagos communities.

The launch of the BATOGD Movement, Daniel said, leaves “no doubt” about his unwavering commitment to Tinubu’s political project, adding that Tinubu remains “a bastion of democracy who has paid his dues and deserves the support of well-meaning Nigerians.”
