The Ogun State Government has shut down five companies operating along the Ogere axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway after their workers allegedly attacked and injured state officials and law enforcement officers during an enforcement exercise.
The affected companies — DL Plastics Limited, Dyschenghan Plastics, SH Agricultural Limited, Beautiful Fibre Limited, and Jincaicai Nigeria Limited — were accused of persistent environmental violations, including improper waste disposal, open burning of refuse, and refusal to engage government-approved waste collectors.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Hon. Abayomi Hunye, who led the enforcement, said the government had made repeated attempts over six months to engage the companies, issuing letters, invitations, and sealing notices — all of which were ignored.
“When our officials finally sealed their gates last week, the companies went as far as breaking government chains and removing seal notices,” Hunye said. “When we returned with law enforcement to re-seal the facilities, their workers mobilized, attacked our officers, and inflicted bodily harm on them. Those injured were rushed to hospital.”
Hunye described the attack as “barbaric” and warned that the government would not tolerate any company, local or foreign, obstructing lawful enforcement actions.
“These recalcitrant companies have become environmental hazards. Assaulting government officials is a grave offence, and those responsible will face prosecution under the laws of Ogun State,” he stated.
He stressed that the closures would remain in effect until the companies comply fully with environmental regulations and face sanctions for both the infractions and the assault on state officers.
