Peace Restored in Ogun Community After Herdsboy Killing – CP

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has assured residents of Roro Village, Mile 8 in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area that peace has been restored following the recent killing of a herdsboy on a farmland.

Ogunlowo, who spoke to journalists on Monday, said initial fears of reprisal attacks were calmed through swift police intervention and mediation efforts involving all stakeholders.

According to the Commissioner, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kenta was directed to convene an urgent peace meeting with community leaders, farmers, and cattle rearers, where all parties agreed to maintain calm and prevent further escalation.

The CP revealed that tension in the community heightened after a cattle rearer reported his son missing following an altercation on a farmland. A joint search by residents, hunters, and police later led to the discovery of the boy’s body in a shallow grave.

“The suspected killer has been arrested alongside the gun and cutlass allegedly used in the crime,” Ogunlowo confirmed. “The victim’s body has been exhumed and properly buried at the family’s request. As I speak, the suspect remains in custody, and there is no cause for alarm.”

He further disclosed that tactical teams have been deployed for confidence-building patrols across the community to reassure residents of their safety, stressing that no reprisal attacks had been recorded since the incident.

Ogunlowo urged citizens to remain law-abiding and take advantage of the Ogun State Police Command’s emergency contact system, accessible even without internet service, via 08000009111.
