The Ogun State Government has revived the long-dormant Food Crops Marketing Board, with a commitment to making quality packaged food products available to residents at discounted prices.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, announced the development while hosting the Board’s Chairman, Barr. Ibilola Kamilat Subair, and her team in his office.
Commending Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as “creativity and proactiveness in governance,” Dr. Taiwo said the initiative reflects the administration’s resolve to leave Ogun better than it met it.
“It is indeed a thing of joy to see that the board, which was moribund for a very long time, is now rejuvenated for optimal productivity,” he said, urging the public to patronize the new products.
Barr. Subair explained that the Board, supervised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, now oversees the direct sourcing, processing, packaging, and marketing of farm produce under strict hygiene standards.
Among the packaged products already available are Ofada rice, rice flour, plantain flour, yam flour, and “Garri Dapo.”
She added that the initiative would not only provide affordable food options but also create a steady market for farmers, boosting the agricultural value chain in the state.
