Peter Rufai: NFF Responds to Taribo West’s Allegations

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a response to recent claims made by former Super Eagles defender Taribo West concerning the late goalkeeper Peter Rufai.

According to West, who criticized the NFF and the Lagos State Government on Friday, accusing them of neglecting the family of the late Rufai. West also expressed his disapproval of allowing his son to represent Nigeria, citing how Rufai was reportedly mistreated after his death.

In a swift response issued on Friday evening, the NFF clarified its position, asserting that it provided support to the families of both Rufai and Christian Chukwu.

Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the federation stated that financial assistance was extended to Rufai’s family during his funeral in Lagos.

“The Nigeria Football Federation stood in solidarity with two of our legends as they were laid to rest,” the statement read.

It continued, “In support of Christian Chukwu’s burial rites, the NFF provided financial aid to his family, with representation from Executive Committee Members Chief George Aluo, Barr. Okey Obi, and Mr. Chikelue Iloenyosi.”

Regarding Rufai, the NFF added, “Similarly, at Peter Rufai’s funeral mass in Lagos, the federation offered financial support to his family. The delegation included Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi and Dr. Ademola Olajire.”

The federation concluded by affirming its respect for the contributions of these football icons, stating, “We honor their service, celebrate their legacy, and continue to support their families.”
