A middle-aged man, identified as Adamu, has been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Security Network for allegedly vandalizing abandoned vehicles belonging to Edo Line, the state-owned transport company, in Benin City.
The suspect was reportedly caught in the act at the defunct Edo Line office on James Watt Road, where he was said to be dismantling vehicle parts before his arrest.
Investigations suggest that Adamu is a member of a syndicate that specializes in stripping unserviceable vehicles and selling the parts. According to security sources, the gang had already removed engines and other components from several vehicles before the operatives arrived.
Acting on intelligence, members of the security network stormed the premises. While Adamu was apprehended, his alleged accomplices escaped by scaling the fence.
The spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, said the command was aware of the incident and would issue an official statement after gathering more details.
