John Utaka Open to Super Eagles Coaching Role

Former Super Eagles forward and newly appointed Montpellier Féminines head coach, John Utaka, says he would gladly accept the opportunity to manage Nigeria’s senior men’s national team if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Utaka, who was recently handed the reins of French Division 1 Féminine side Montpellier, revealed in an interview on a radio show  that coaching the Super Eagles would be an honour.

“If the NFF calls me, I’ll be glad to come. The job is to coach the players to the maximum,” the ex-Portsmouth striker said.

The 48-cap Nigerian international, who scored six goals for the Super Eagles, was part of the squad that secured bronze at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia. He also featured at the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.

Before his latest appointment in France, Utaka had applied for the Flying Eagles coaching position but lost out to Aliyu Zubairu.
