Ogun Head of Service Urges Medical Personnel to Develop Strategies for National Healthcare Leadership

The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has charged medical personnel in the state to devise innovative strategies and collaborative solutions that will position Ogun as a true leader in national healthcare delivery.

Onasanya made the call in Ijebu-Ode during a three-day strategic retreat organised by the Ogun State Hospitals Management Board for its management staff, heads of zones, hospital administrators, apex nurses, and other senior officers in the health sector.

Commending the present administration for building a well-equipped, knowledgeable, and proactive workforce, the Head of Service noted that the retreat was an opportunity for participants to rethink approaches to tackling global health challenges. Speaking on the theme “Strategic Leadership and Management as Panacea for Effective, Efficient and Qualitative Health Care Delivery,” he said the exercise aligns with the state government’s strong commitment to capacity development across the public service.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving funds for health infrastructure upgrades, granting exit replacements, and enhancing the state’s ambulance services. She encouraged participants to adopt the “4 P’s” — Perception, Process, People, and Projection — in their duties, stressing that data should not only be collected but also applied in making critical decisions that improve health outcomes across the state.

Special Advisers to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tayo Lawal and Dr. Rotimi Ogungbe, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, urged participants to share experiences and work together towards delivering quality healthcare services to all residents.

Permanent Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, explained that the retreat aimed to clearly communicate the government’s health sector vision to heads of health zones, hospitals, and facilities, ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Chief Medical Director of State Hospital, Ijaiye, Dr. Bunmi Osinaike, and Medical Directors of Owode Egba Hospital and Oba Ademola Maternity Hospital, Dr. Yomibo Sofolahan and Dr. Gabriel Taiwo, expressed gratitude to the board’s management for the initiative. They affirmed that the retreat would enhance their productivity and efficiency in service delivery.
