The lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Gbenga Daniel, has warned that he will take the Ogun State Government to court if it proceeds with the alleged plan to demolish his properties in Sagamu.
Over the weekend, Senator Daniel raised concerns that state government officials had served Notices of Contravention and Quit notices on three of his Sagamu properties, indicating the threat of demolition.
Addressing journalists earlier today, the senator’s media aide, Steve Oli yide, described the government’s actions as political persecution, alleging that due process was not followed. He questioned why other properties in the Sagamu GRA were not issued similar notices, dismissing the state’s claim that the exercise was a routine audit. According to him, the notices clearly signaled an intent to demolish Senator Daniel’s buildings.
Oliyide further argued that the state government lacked the moral standing to issue such orders, claiming that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s private residence along the Iperu–Ode Road also violates setback and right-of-way regulations, and should be the first to face demolition.
He added that Senator Daniel has so far exercised restraint out of respect for President Bola Tinubu but warned that legal action would be taken if the demolition threat continues.
In a twist, Oliyide revealed that shortly after the press conference, state government officials returned to remove the notices earlier placed on the senator’s properties.
