Stakeholders' Feedback Shaping Clean-up Process - HYPREP

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), agency responsible for the clean-up of oil-impacted communities in Ogoniland has said  that it is disposed to providing platforms for  stakeholders feedback that would  help in the conceptualisation and implementation of policies and programmes that meet public expectations in line with the recommendations of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Report  and the directive of the  Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal for the Project.

Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, stated this at a stakeholders meeting  held in Bori with chiefs and community leaders from Khana LGA, recently.

He  noting that as a people-centred project, communities feedbacks on HYPREP's activities and how they impact them is key to not only fostering inclusivity and support but also guide the Project in delivering on its mandate.

Represented by the Head, Stakeholders Engagement, Mr Richard Mkpe, the Project Coordinator informed the Khana stakeholders that HYPREP has recorded significant milestones across the projects; prominent among them are the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER), the provision of potable water, Construction of the Buan Cottage Hospital and Ogoni Specialist Hospital and the Ogoni Power Project. Others are the mangrove restoration project, soil, ground water and shoreline remediation and livelihood and capacity development programmes.

He commended the communities for their continued support for the Project and  assured that the feedbacks garnered will be duly attended to.

The stakeholder meeting had earlier held in the others LGAs of Eleme, Gokana and Tai, with stakeholders charging HYPREP to ensure the speedy completion of  projects.

They particularly urged HYPREP to prioritise the provision of potable water and livelihood programmes.

It is worthy of note that HYPREP holds regular stakeholders meetings with key Ogoni Stakeholders, Quarterly Engagement with Youths, Sensitisation and Town Hall Meetings, Engagement with Regulators and Asset Owners among others. Through the Central Representative Advisory Committee (CRAC), Zonal Representative Committee (ZRC) and other stakeholder management initiatives, HYPREP has continued to bridge the gap between it and the communities.
