The Edo State Government has issued a strong disclaimer refuting claims that it awarded a contract for the construction of 12 kilometers of internal roads in Esan Central Local Government Area to a company identified as Midmac Construction Nig. Ltd., Abuja.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Works and signed by the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Engr. Dr. John Obanor, the government clarified that no such contract was awarded.
The Ministry described the circulating document suggesting otherwise as fraudulent and not originating from its office.
The statement also addressed concerns regarding the authenticity of the staff member whose name was reportedly used in the alleged fake correspondence.
It affirmed that the said staff is a reputable and committed civil servant with no involvement in the scam.
According to the Ministry, the staff member was not authorized to issue or sign any such letter or document.
“For any inquiries or clarifications regarding road construction contract awards, the public is advised to contact the Ministry of Works directly,” the statement urged.
The Ministry strongly condemned the act of impersonation and described it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and damage the government's reputation. It warned that anyone found culpable in the fraudulent activity would face the full weight of the law.
The Ministry called for vigilance, urging stakeholders and the general public to verify information through official channels.
