Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo has approved the suspension of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, Omoaze I, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Edo State, over allegations of kidnapping in the area.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, who disclosed this in a statement, traced his sanction to
recent cases of incessant kidnapping and killings in his area.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, is aimed at facilitating an unhindered investigation into the disturbing development.
According to the statement, the monarch’s personal secretary was allegedly caught in the act of kidnapping, sparking outrage and prompting swift government action.
The statement emphasized that the suspension does not amount to a declaration of guilt but is a precautionary measure to uphold the integrity of the investigation and the sanctity of traditional institutions.
A final decision regarding the monarch’s status will be made once investigations are concluded and findings are made public.
Until then, Dr. Egabor remains suspended from all official duties and functions as the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom.
The government urged the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their work without interference.
