The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has extended heartfelt Easter greetings to Christians and non-Christians alike, describing the season as a celebration that solidifies the foundation of Christianity globally.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Comrade Alenkhe emphasized that Easter symbolizes a new beginning, renewed hope, and the promise of eternal life. He described the season as a period for reflection on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and an expression of joy, gratitude, and unconditional love.
According to him, the cross which Jesus bore was heavy, yet He carried it to wipe away the sins of humanity. He added that the resurrection of Christ is a testament to sustained joy, captured in the declaration, “It is Finished.”
Comrade Alenkhe referenced Acts 13:30, stating that "God raised Jesus from the dead and made the tomb empty," which he said signifies the triumph of life over death and reaffirms the relevance of Easter in the Christian faith.
The NUJ Chairman also used the occasion to offer prayers for all practicing journalists in Edo State, asking that the miracle of Easter bring peace, love, and blessings upon them and their families.
In a goodwill message, Comrade Alenkhe extended Easter greetings to the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, and members of the State Executive Council. He prayed for divine wisdom and guidance for the state’s leadership, urging them to steer Edo on a path of peace, development, and impactful projects.
He concluded by reminding journalists to remain committed to the ethics of the profession, stressing the importance of adhering strictly to the rules of media engagement in the discharge of their duties.
