In a call for continued efforts in fostering peace and harmony, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun addressed religious organizations and traditional institutions at the investiture of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, as the Amir-ul-mulik-il-Muslimin of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states. The ceremony, held in Ijebu Ode, highlighted the essential role of religious leaders in cultivating harmonious relationships within communities.
Governor Abiodun pledged his administration’s commitment to creating an environment that respects all religions, reinforcing unity in diversity. He praised Oba Adetona as a dedicated Muslim, noting that this title is the first of its kind in Yorubaland and the Southwest. The Governor encouraged the monarch to leverage his new role to strengthen relationships in Ijebuland and promote unity among Muslim communities in the state.
During the event, Professor Kamaldeen Balogun delivered a lecture emphasizing that the Awujale's investiture as Amir represents a significant achievement that could enhance the relationship between Yoruba traditions and Islam. He expressed optimism for improved ties between the Yoruba diaspora and the Muslim faith, urging the new Amir to develop initiatives that foster economic and social empowerment, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
