Lagos State Assembly Suspends Alimosho Local Government Chairman Indefinitely

The Lagos State House of Assembly has suspended Alimosho local government chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, indefinitely, as announced during a plenary session on Monday, October 7.

The lawmakers appointed the vice chairman, Mr. Akinpelu Johnson, to oversee the council’s operations in the interim. They directed the council's management, including the manager and treasurer, to acknowledge Johnson's authority and provide him with necessary support.

The unanimous vote for Sulaimon's suspension stemmed from allegations of non-compliance, defiance, and an uncooperative attitude towards the legislative body.

Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs, sponsored the motion.

Supporting the suspension, Majority Leader Noheem Adams stated that the action would encourage other local government chairmen to adhere to proper protocols. "The Alimosho council chairman has not followed procurement processes or adhered to the budget, resulting in numerous misconducts. I fully support his indefinite suspension," he emphasized.
