ASUSS Honors Educators in Sagamu for World Teachers’ Day: "Valuing Teacher Voices"


In celebration of World Teachers’ Day, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, recognized several teachers for their exceptional contributions to education and dedication to their roles.


During the event, themed "Valuing Teacher Voices," held at Remo Divisional High School Hall, ASUSS State Chairman Comrade Felix Agbesanwa emphasized the vital role of teachers as mentors and influencers, stating, "Nobody can do without teachers; they are tutors, helpers, and motivators who help many fulfill their destinies."


Agbesanwa encouraged educators to meet expectations and continue supporting local and state governments by providing developmental knowledge to their students.


Comrade Ayodeji Afuwape, Chairman of ASUSS Sagamu Branch, explained that the aim of the celebration was to inspire educators and promote excellence in the education sector. "We are committed to recognizing and rewarding our members who have shown exceptional dedication to their duties," he noted.


He expressed gratitude to sponsors and partners, urging teachers to deliver quality education and recommit to their mission of empowering students and transforming lives, despite the challenges in the sector.


Oba Lasisi Gisanrin, represented by Baale Adedokun Egbarin, commended the initiative and encouraged teachers to persist in imparting knowledge, suggesting that the Union involve royal fathers in educational development.


Mrs. Adeniyi Esther (Female Category) and Mr. Onajobi Temitope (Male Category) were honored as the best teachers for the 2023/2024 academic session. They expressed gratitude for the recognition, viewing it as a call to service.


Retired Principals, Mr. Soile Adekunle from Ogunlesi Memorial School and Comrade Iyabo Ogunyanwo from Remo Secondary School, among other awardees, thanked the organizers and pledged to continue contributing to the sector's development.

The event also featured an inter-school quiz competition and the presentation of glucometers to all public secondary schools in the area.
