The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has called on political parties to submit their strongest candidates with credible credentials ahead of the upcoming elections in November 2024.
Chairman Mr. Babatunde Osibodu made this statement during the ongoing screening of Councillorship candidates at the Commission's headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
Osibodu reported that the screening process is progressing smoothly, with all submitted candidates currently being attended to. He indicated that the exercise is expected to conclude this week, but any candidates needing additional screening for both Chairmanship and Councilorship will be addressed the following week. He emphasized that if a candidate is disqualified, the respective party must submit a replacement for screening.
The Chairman encouraged political parties to work collaboratively with OGSIEC to ensure a seamless election process. He also urged youths to engage in politics by joining parties of their choice and participating in decision-making for the betterment of the state.
In separate comments, Councillorship candidates Mrs. Oluranti Subair from Iju ward 7 and Mr. Ebenezer Adesanmi from Ifo ward 3 praised OGSIEC for the efficient conduct of the screening, noting that the process has been smooth and without issues.
