The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has announced an extension for party primaries in preparation for the upcoming Local Government elections, in response to the public holiday declared for Monday, 16th September 2024.
In a statement issued by Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, Chairman of OGSIEC, the commission acknowledged concerns from political parties about the impact of the holiday on their primary election preparations. As a result, the deadline for party primaries has been moved to Thursday, 19th September 2024, providing additional time for party organization.
Furthermore, OGSIEC has extended the deadline for submitting Personal Data Forms CF001 and CF002 to Monday, 23rd September 2024, ensuring all parties have ample time to complete their submissions.
The commission has also revised administrative fees in response to feedback: the fee for Chairmanship candidates has been reduced from N250,000 to N200,000. For councilorship candidates, the fees have been adjusted to N100,000 for males and N50,000 for females.
Despite these adjustments, all other aspects of the election schedule remain as planned, with the Local Government elections set for 16th November 2024.
These changes are aimed at reducing pressure on political parties and fostering greater participation in the electoral process.
