Fuel Price Hike: Ogun State Approves Additional Day Off for Public Servants

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced an increase in days off for public servants in response to the rising fuel prices affecting daily commutes. Effective immediately, officers on Grade Level 01-14 will now be granted two days off per week, while those on Grade Level 15-17 will retain one day off per week.

Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, the State Head of Service, stated that this decision is designed to ease the financial strain on workers who are facing increased commuting challenges. The additional day off is anticipated to provide substantial relief and boost service delivery by creating a more motivated and energized workforce.

Governor Abiodun’s commitment to worker welfare is underscored by this policy, which builds on a similar initiative introduced in July 2023. At that time, a one-day-off policy was established for all grade levels. The new measure, extending the days off for lower-grade officers, aims to further alleviate financial pressures and enhance productivity.

Onasanya has instructed all accounting officers to implement the new policy across their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) while ensuring that service delivery remains uninterrupted.
