The Ogun State House of Assembly has formally acknowledged Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun's request for approval of the 2025-2027 State Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), which is a key step in preparing the 2025 budget. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, received the Governor’s correspondence during the Plenary session held at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
In his letter, Governor Abiodun stated, “In accordance with the Ogun State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2020 (as amended), I hereby inform the Rt. Honourable Speaker and other Honourable Members that the Executive Council has approved the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework. I request your consideration and approval of this framework to facilitate the planning and budgeting process for 2025 and the subsequent years 2026 and 2027.”
In a separate development, the House Committee on Health has advocated for increased funding in the health sector to improve public health outcomes, including reducing infant and maternal mortality rates and increasing life expectancy. The Committee, led by Hon. Wahab Haruna and supported by Honourables Tella Babatunde, Yusuf Sherif, Lawal Samusideen, Fola Salami, and Odunuga Kaka, made this appeal during a meeting with the Family Health Initiative advocacy group.
Lawmakers, including Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff, and Honourables Babatunde Tella and Odunuga Kaka, underscored the importance of allocating more funds to the health sector and urged a positive change in attitude from health officials to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Mrs. Oluwakemi Balogun, Chairperson of the Family Health Initiative, emphasized the need for collaboration between the Assembly, the government, and public-spirited individuals to enhance funding for health services. She called for efforts to address infant and maternal mortality, and the provision of family planning kits and other essential supplies.
